Dr Stephen Withers

Paediatrician and Clinical Geneticist
 

 

Dr Stephen Withers graduated from the University of Queensland in 1987.  He commenced training in paediatrics in 1989 at the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane.  He completed his specialty exams in 1993 and in 1994 was the Senior Registrar in Neonatology at the Grantley Stable Neonatal Unit at the Royal Women's Hospital, Brisbane.  Dr Withers completed his specialist training in 1995 and was made a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.  He went on to complete sub-specialty training in the discipline of Clinical Genetics (inherited disorders) at Sydney Children's Hospital.  Dr Withers has a Masters Degree of Medical Science from the University of Queensland and additionally completed two post subspecialty fellowships, one at the Institute of Oncology at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney and the other at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.  Dr Withers returned to Australia in 2000 and was appointed the Director of Paediatrics at Logan Hospital.   In 2004, Dr Withers joined the Foundation Staff at the Griffith University Medical School as the first appointed Associate Professor in Paediatrics.

Dr Withers is registered with the Medical Boards of Queensland and New South Wales.  Dr Withers is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in the disciplines of both Paediatrics and Clinical Genetics.
